Well this week was alright. First on Thursday we did weekly planning early because Friday we had a district leader conference. Then Thursday night we saw the family Pappalardo, it's a fun name to say. They are super cool. I think they might be my family for Christmas if I'm still here then, but we will see because they were the only family I have seen so far. Then Friday we had the conference then Saturday we just had a ton of appointments fall through and let me tell you something there is nothing more frustrating or disheartening than having lessons fall through. We had one baptismal date who canceled on us and another lady that is a member with some problems. It's not like I blame them or anything it's just kinda upsetting. So we just ended up buying some Italian gelato which always makes things better. Then in church it was great because we had 5 investigators in church but none of our baptismal dates came and doing finding work we were trying to contact people but they weren't listening to what were saying so we decided to change what we said and Anziano Romeo asked me what we should say and I said let's ask does people if God cares what we do in this life and the first person we asked stops and we got a return appointment with him for Wednesday. Then we kinda got a referral from an African family of new converts that was there during the lesson. He said that he always went to our church in Sardegna but he isn't baptized so we will also try with him. Then Sunday night I did a scambio with Anziano Leinhardt, our zone leader and I like him a lot. I have known him for a while but haven't really talked to him a lot but we have a lot of the same friends in the mission. So after taking the buses we got to his house at like 10:00 planned and hung out a while. Their apartment is super nice because it was the apartment of a member that moved.
Monday we did some work in the morning and had a lesson but it fell through also, then Anziano Leinhart decided to do a pass by of a less active and he was super nice. I have a feeling he might come back to church if they keep seeing him. He is trying to quit smoking and drinking even before we visited him. Halfway through the lesson, just after he told us that his wife was a Jehovhs Witness she walked in after finishing Proselyting so she was just ready to combat with us but we didn't take any of that! We just bore our testimonies that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church on the face of the earth and so she asked "so your saying that my church isn't true" and we just simply said yes your church is not true. Because especially with Jehovahs Witnesses, if we aren't simple and bold with them they will walk all over us because they don't allow you to talk. Anyway they wanted us to come and also let me tell you it felt really good telling them in a loving manner that all other churches were wrong. I kinda felt like Elder Holland. haha but I'm starting to understand that we need to tell people the way things are and not sugar coat it or they won't listen.
Tuesday we had zone conference and it was weird. Just after having a lesson like we had on Monday, President starts talking about being bold. and that when people don't listen we need to wake them up with some powerful truth. Also President asked one of us to volunteer to do some exercise but he did it in a tricky manner and some how I got called to do some exercise. He wanted to make some point of it but because I was exercising i didn't understand what the point of me doing it was. Then when I finished, because I haven't worked out in a long time, I was seeing things very weird and was kinda sick feeling. After about half an hour of recovering, I finally felt better, but man am I out of shape! And today everything is super sore!
Then yesterday, Wednesday, we went to the worlds, or Europes second biggest Egyptian Museum. I took 109 pics, it was spectacular and makes me want to be an archeologist even more. It was weird , I literally saw mummies unwrapped, I thought there might be a zombie attack soon! And it is weird how some of them are preserved and all the furniture and even some food, like bread and berries! It was amazing, we will probably go back soon. Then we taught Gianpaulo the guy we met on Sunday and he was super interested and said that he wanted to bring a friend and also that when he knows that things are true that he will be baptized so we will try and set a date with him the next time.
I told President about the apartment and he said "well it's time to roll up the sleeves and get to work and if there is anything that you cant fix let me know". So I have to kinda take inventory. And about the cleaning supplies, Mom that stuff doesn't exist here!! Remember they don't have american stuff. We fixed the bed situation, they do detach thank goodness, so I don't have to sleep on the top anymore. The sisters are in the other ward in Torino. They have two wards here. Also my head isn't hurting anymore when I speak Italian 100% of the time so thats good news. Don't send any packages, just put the money on my card. Speaking of which, I just spent 5 dollars because I subscribed to the Liahona church magizine. I sent the voting thing back today but I'm not sure if you need my social security number or not. I wrote a small letter saying that. Oh and Richard told me that things are going better now and you were able to quit working. Why didn't you tell me that you quit? That's great that Bro. Kirkham was made a counselor in Bishopric, Is Bishop Rogers still the Bishop?
well love you have a great week!
Jake
